I was born and lived in Ludington most of my life. Left in 1996 and now live in the Chicago area. I try to get back every 4th of July and would love to have a second home in Ludington to eventually retire there. Just checking out everyone on here - any Shafer's out there?

Hi Patti
How great to know that is you! It definitely has been a long time. Bob says hello! (with great enthusiasm) and says to tell you that he hopes to see you and your family at the reunion this summer. We are planning on going, and hoping to bring Phyllis. She has been quite sick this winter and now living in Tendercare. She dislikes it there, but her health doesn't permit her to live at home any longer
Bob loved your parents, Patti. And I remember them, especially your mother, with great fondness. Peggy was always very kind to me, especially at those big Shafer gatherings....which could always be quite daunting..especially in the early years of our marriage. :)
Our oldest, Eric, is living in Grand Rapids H has multiple jobs--youth director at a church, a lead teacher for a before and after school program for the YMCA, and a professional musician who plays solo and with a band called Drake. He and his finance, Tammy, are planning a wedding in August of 2009. Tammy is a recent graduate of Michigan State's nursing program and working at a hospital in GR.
Mairead, who turns 21 tomorrow, is going to school at West Shore. She isn't too sure what her future plans are..but would like to transfer to a 4-year school in Sept. 2009. Next year, she will go to west Shore again.
I work at the college still...I'm a counselor and director of our special needs program. Bob has been teaching electronics for the ISD for several years..and also doing some contact radio work.
His brother Gary is retired....Patty is a professor at Baker College in Muskegon. She does their secondary education teacher training program. Their daughter, Joy, is married. She and her husband, Roger, are in Hawaii. They are both doctors--Joy is a hospitalist and Roger specializes in Emergency Medicine. He is in the military will be deployed to Iraq very soon---for about 6 to 9 months. He recently left for a training camp in Maryland (I think). David and his wife, Amanda, live in Chicago. David is nurse-anesthetist and Amanda is a professor at St. Xavier, her field is Psychology. They have a beautiful almost 4-year old named Evelyn.
Joy was home just last week--she, Dave, and Amanda had a 40th wedding anniversary party for Gary and Patty. Aunt Donna and Uncle Art were able to come to the party. Auntie Ban and her brother, Tom, along with Blanche's children Janet, Diane (I think), and Mary Ann, plus Janet's husband, Doug, are in Ireland this week and last. What an adventure they must be having!.
That's about all the Shafer news that I know.
Take care!

Patti,
Great to hear from you! How's life in the 'windy city'? Yes, my little girls have grown, as have your children. Hillary is in her 3rd year at CMU, Haley has been excepted to U of M and Hanna will be a freshman next fall.
My how they grow . . . . do you get back to the Ludington area often? Great to hear from you, keep in touch and CARPE DIEM!
Phil
Thank you. That's a huge compliment. I have never sold a photograph, but would be willing to start. :)
I'm not sure how well those would hold up at the very largest sizes, Patti, but would be good at about an 8.5 x 11 or smaller. If you're interested, let me know, and I'll figure something out.
