bike racks

It looks like we will have some bike racks in town this spring, some nice looking structures that will enhance Ludingtons walkability, if anyone is interested in contributing $$ any denomonation let me know, I want to have them placed in areas near downtown, trails, sites of interest, to encourage people to get out of the car onto the bike, into the shops and restuarants, they will look great, let me know any other ideas you have for walkability it is my focus for the planning commission, Joe

Great idea. Nice-looking, well-maintained bike racks would enhance the appearance of Ludington and perhaps encourage bike-riding. I mention well-maintained because a couple of months ago I noticed several of the downtown street lights along Ludington Avenue were no longer working and had not been lighting for some time. The lights need maintained, and that should be a high priority.

vivki, yes maintaining our facade is important, hopefully these will be low maintenence, they will be painted (blue?) and will add to the overall appearance

Hope y'all don't mind me every once in a while saying "this is what we're doing in Manistee," but I'm just hoping what I say may help down in your neck of the woods. Anyway, I've been pleased to be a part of the City of Manistee's Non-Motorized Transportation Committee and one of our accomplishments is to identify ten locations around Manistee each year where bike racks are then placed. We've been part of the active communities program, and I think this has given some grant money to the city to do things like the bike racks. One thing we'd like to do in the future is help put some racks on our dial-a-ride busses so bikers can combine biking with dial-a-riding.
