I had my first cup of Starbucks while on vacation last fall. Personally I felt $4.00+ for a cup of coffee that in my opinion seemed way too strong was a heck of a lot. I just did not see anything special about it, it seems to have become a status purchase. In the local area people are just not interested in coffee at that cost I do not feel. In addition the size of that place in comparison to the seasonal potential was way too much also.
I remember going by Starbucks daily and there was always more employees cars in the lot than customers. I hope another Applebee's type restaurant would take over that location since we don't have much in casual inexpensive dining in our area.
I am still waiting for a Quiznos or similar sub shop to come to Ludington too. I remember a year ago there was an ad for interviews in TC for a new Quiznos store opening here in Ludington but it never came about. I think they are a franchise and maybe the economy caused its demise.
We do need more choices though, for years it's the same old, same old and I don't mean fast food. We need more mid sized moderate priced dining choices for the locals. Its great to cater to the tourists that visit but the locals keep our local economy going from month to month.

I agree about wanting a Quizno's! We have 2 Subway's which are far inferior to Quizno's product. I wish I had the type of personality to start a franchise.
I am a fan of Starbucks. Yes, $4 for a strong cup of coffee is more than many locals want to pay, but I'm not from Michigan, and I like the Starbucks environment and the coffee. I will miss the Ludington store, I actually hope that as business and the economy stabilize over time that the corporate folks will reconsider and try again in this area. Meanwhile, I'll buy coffee at Goody's in Manistee or some other local shop.
Perhaps it might have done better if it was located right at the intersection of US10 and US31?
WOW that did not last long why would it at the prices they have!! most of us up here are counting our Penny's and living week to week or day by day ludington & manistee needs to do some changes for the RESIDENTS that live here year round cheaper places to eat and I'm not talking fast food either
Angie, I think the Starbucks thrives in the summer, and probably doesn't have much foot traffic in the winter months. What a shame! Hope their marketing people know what their doing.
Not good!! I love their caramel latte's and loved when I was up there that I had the chance to go there. It's crazy that they put up a really nice store and hired all those people. I wonder if the location hurt? I would have thought it would have been more towards downtown....
As much as I hate to see Starbucks shut their doors ( I'm a big fan of Green Tea Latte), maybe the Book Store coffee house and the little coffee shop on the corner of Jebavy and US10 will be able to integrate their traffic. I like to see the Mom and Pop local businesses thriving.
Has anyone been to the Village Grounds in Pentwater? Now that is a great spot, small with breakfast and lunch items.. Many employees waiting to help you and the owner is always there, which is great to see! I wish there was one in Ludington as well!
