ok being new to the area I want to hear the one spot you love! where you go to eat or shop or anything. I have found some out of the way cool places and am looking for more in the area (ludington, scottville, custer, etc) If you have that favorite place that everyone just has to check out or your go-to place when you go out to eat, or where you like to hang on the weekend, share it with the 'new girl' and maybe everyone else might find a new fav too!
Hello Sally and welcome to Mason County. If you have not visited the Federal Park, located on Forest Trail in Grant Twp, you must see it. It’s right on the Lake Michigan shoreline. It has the day use picnic area, camping area with large sites and lots of wilderness trails. If you like wildlife, this is the place to go.
Hi Sally, and welcome to Ludington. Where did you move from? I love to poke around in Pentwater. Gull's Landing is a nice place to eat, and sometimes has Jazz on certain nights. There is a great wine shop there as well.
I'm fairly new here also but I do have a couple favorite places: Old Hamlin resturant for the best Oatmeal in the mornngs, the new Blu Moon for ambience and the Sportsman's for the pizza or salmon sandwich. Chef John's for girl time. The Plaza cafe is a must. If you want something outdoorsy head out to Branch and sit for awhile along the Pere Marquette river. Take plenty of mosquito repellent though, this year they seem more plentiful. Welcome to the area!
Hi Sally. Nice to meet you. If you live in or near Ludington, it won't take you long to find everything here. I agree with Beverly; go explore Pentwater. But take the backroads to get there (Old 31 to Iris to South Lakeshore...). Check out the "Project" along the way. The view from the top is awesome. Gull's Landing, Brown Bear and the Village Pub are all within walking distance, on the main drag, and great places to eat and drink. So is the Boathouse. It's a little south of town but worth the short ride. And, Yes, Durand Wine Co has an incredible selection of import beer and wine. Take a walk along the channel and state park beach. Do a little research and get dates for the wooden boat show, art and crafts fairs and especially Homecoming. Drop me a line if you have any questions about directions or anything, I'd be glad to help.
While on Lakeshore drive from Ludington to Pentwater...stop and get some of the best fish at Bortelll's. There's a nice area to sit and eat right there or you can head across the street to Summit Park and enjoy the view of Lake Michigan while you feast on the best perch. :-) This has always been a summertime must for our family. Welcome to the area!
Hi Sally, Welcome to Mason County. I would agree with Jeff and go out to the Federal Park. If you do, at the end of the road that takes you out there, park in the parking lot on the left and walk up the ramp/stairs to the beach, it is the nicest place to view one of Lake Michigan's perfect sunsets. The nice thing is, it usually isn't as crowded as some of our other beaches.
My favorite place to eat when we come home is "Park Dairy" (or House of Flavors) and either some "Blue Moon" ice cream or a huge banana split. Then, a pound of seafoam candy washed down by a botte of Squirt. You never realize how good the simple things were until you can't get them anymore. Just a walk on the beach at the park would be a wonderful way to spend some time.
Enjoy Ludington! It's beautiful there!
Welcome to the area. There's a new restaurant in town, Blu Moon Cafe, that is to die for! Very eclectic decorating, great breakfast and lunch menu, and the best lattes in town (at least on the west side). It's a great place to meet friends and share a laugh.
