When I first came to Ludington in 1997 it was rumored that an Olive Garden and a Red Lobster were coming to town. That decade, and century, passed and the only big chain restaurant that made it to town was Applebees. Even this spring a co-worker swore she knew the plumber that had been hired to do plumbing for one of those two restaurants. What's the best rumor you've heard about businesses coming to town? Hotels downtown?

I heard that AJs realized what a big mistake that they made taking down the batting cages they had.If I had a business sense I would build a indoor batting cage that we could use during the summer and winter. Keep kids out of trouble. And adults too. I am glad though that the Starbucks rumor was a true one.I would love an Olive garden.

I agree that taking the batting cages down was a bad idea. Someone should put some up at the beach! I haven't heard any rumors really but I really wish there was a good craft store here. There used to be Craft Land on James Street. It'd be great to have that back. Also a really good, cheapo sushi bar but I think I might be pushing my luck with that one!

This area cannot support the retail is has, let alone anything new. Just ask the Best Choice Market. Five or six weeks of business does not a year make. I doubt there will be any new eateries, the excecutive that had the idea to bring Meijer to town has been fired. Small businesses, as well has large, in this county are floating in red ink. The only thing that keeps the big guys here are the fact that they have deeper pockets.

I don't think that's true at all! Nautical Yarn is a great example of a thriving business in our community and there's plenty of room for more like 'em. If small businesses are to survive in the area, there needs to be effective planning strategies, incentives, assistance and partnering on a community level. Businesses need to keep it simple, find their niche and learn how to react to community needs. I'm not a business owner so of course I'm making it sound like a piece of cake but I think that having the guts to respond to our challenges with vision, imagination and enthusiasm is what we need. Where's your entrepreneurial spirit ab?

someone really knows how to get people fired up!! :)
I agree with i think i love you michigan (perhaps you should be a business owner - build some batting cages while your at it) as far as supply and demand. find out what the community wants and needs, what they are willing to spend money on . My teenage son is a "GAMER" . we have also heard a rumor that a gamestop is coming to town.I know there is a need for one at our home.

Perhaps there is a reason Best Choice Market has a hard time. At the 4th of July parade, the Vice Pres. of the Injured Soldiers Foundation asked the owner of Best Choice Market if he would be interested in donating some baked goods for the Foundation's bake sale the next day....When he asked where the bake sale was going to be held, the answer was in front of Wal-Mart. The owner of Best Choice replied that there was no way he would donate then. A little immature if you ask me.. I certainly won't be going to Best Choice since they are not the best choice..

Just a side note, Wal-Mart donated $1000.00 to the foundation before the bake sale and the bake sale itself made $1400.00 without the help of Best Choice Market. Also, we certainly would not have made that much sitting in the downtown area selling baked goods.

Whoa- ok. not sure if this is relevant but if you feel you need to out your neighbors as drug dealers on public websites instead of calling the cops, go for it!

Yeah heard the same too and where are they. I couldn't care less about Red Lobster since I am allergic to seafood but it would be nice to see some new blood. I think the Starbucks was a dim wit idea. The economy around here does not support $3.00 a cup coffee.

I want Quiznos or even Blimpies would be great. There were ads in last years paper for interviews in TC for jobs at a new Quiznos here in Ludsvile but it just evaporated.

"The economy around here does not support $3.00 a cup coffee." That goes for GOOD coffee, a $3 cup of Starbucks swill is really pushing the envelope.

did anyone hear they are thinking about putting a petting zoo of farm animals and pony rides at the end of G park next to where the new skate park will be?
