It seems that there is good news on the horizon. We are somewhat lucky to have Lake Michigan and great fishing and beaches that keep bringing people back to the area. I'm interested to hear from Ludington folk who might live elsewhere and a report on their region or city.
I think that it could really bring down the price of gasoline if the US would build the first new refinery in 30+ years :)
In other areas- I think that it would really help people to learn how to garden and raise animals to eat. Maybe the LDN could run articles this Spring on gardening tips and help encourage people to learn how to grow their own good healthy food to help their budgets.
As a former resident of Western Michigan, I would love to live there, but the place is run by socialists and the taxes are too high. So I found a place with low taxes, wonderful beaches, and great fishing where the fishing hole doesn't freeze over. I'm loving Northeast Florida nowadays, last one out of Michigan turn out the lights.
what good news is on the horizon? its just summer time when the snow birds come back and yes they spend money however that drops when they leave again in the fall.. we should be looking for a permanent solution for the issues we face today..

We recently moved back to Ludington from the Indianapolis area. I have to say things are going pretty well down there as far as the job market is concerned One reason is because it is a metropolitan area and another is the fact that Indiana's governor has successfully campaigned for several new auto plants in the area. The housing market is just as bad as it is here though. We relocated because, frankly, we hated it there. Not worth the extra income, to us, anyway.
I am from Tulsa, Oklahoma and we are planning our annual summer trip to Ludington. Once there, we will probably do much more walking than in past summers. We feel that the cost for the fuel to travel there won't be a major increase for us but an increase none the less. In Tulsa, we are paying $3.45 a gallon for regular unleaded which, compared to other states is less but still much more than I care to have to pay.
What I still see a lot of on the road these days are the big SUV's, Humvee's, and pick up trucks that just suck the gas. Can't figure it out why we still insist on these types of vehicles to drive when the price of gas is so high and the mileage so poor. Go figure.................................
I noticed you never wrote back what is the good news on the horizon?? as I write this time around gas is now $4.00 a gal here in free soil just about 12 to 15 miles away from Ludington.
If anything the news said the other day more people are going to vacation closer to home this should give us a clue what is going to happen to Michigan for the summer. the last post I did gas was at $3.55 gal
I see more then $4.00 gal by the holiday weekend if they don't do something about it and SOON..
