Scottville, Custer, Branch too. What's in a name...

Here is a link to a post that I found that really disturbs me.

Foreign countries such as Saudi Arabia and China buying up US farm land!!

Is our country becoming so poor that we have to now sell off our dirt!!

I do not think that this should be allowed to happen. Next thing you know, besides dictating the price of oil to us, the Arabs will be dictating the prices of our food. One thing that this country has had going for it was that we are the "Bread Basket" of the world. Will the Arabs and the Chinese be able to reap their own harvest for themselves or will they sell it back to us at inflated prices?

King is correct...this has been going on for years. The Chinese are becoming a major player as well. Not that I'm interested...however foreigners are not allowed to purchase land in most of the arab countries such as Saudi or Qatar.

Hell's Bells!! How can they buy up our bridges, etc.? I knew the Japanese were buying up buildings, especially in New York, but do they also own the land the buildings sit on? Is this country becoming so parsomonius about money that we have to sell off the whole country?
I know that you can buy/build a building in Japan, but you can't own the land it sets on. This kind of behavior makes me want to throw up!!

I just ran over this thread by accident, and yes, as an American that cherishes our "bread basket", just what my dad used to call America, as much as you, I do care. This, from what I understand, has been happening a long time. But, the twist is, the English/Britains were buying the bulk of our farm land in the 80's and putting large chunks together to create monopolies in sectors of the country of farming. Maybe they are the ones selling us out? Or, maybe too many small, under 1,000 acre farms, are going under, and in order to survive, selling to any $$$ offered? Either way, I also heard our infrastructure was being sold to Saudi's too, like bridges, highways, buildings, toll roads, I wouldn't think this was possible either. Is it? Maybe our government has more secrets than we all know on this too! If so, then where are we? We need to have food sources from within, for our very survival, and future, methinks? JMO
