200+ people were present with about 20 or so signs. The invocation by Rev. Keyser, National Anthem by Melissa Dumas, speeches by a former congressman, Vietnam-era veteran, and also former pro football player plus a number of concerned citizens provided the forum that many in attendance expected. Plenty of cars and motorcycles that passed honked their horns in support of the Tea Party. For a first time event in Ludington it really went quite well. There likely will be an article in Monday's LDN. The one thing most everyone asked is how do I get involved. My recommendation is to go to www.teapartywarrior.com for a list of key website links. This simple website also provides a "field manual" to enable all to learn what those in the Tea Party Movement can do to make a difference. I also strongly suggest signing up as a member at www.teapartyofwmi.org to receive e-mail updates of what others members are doing in west Michigan and when future events are planned.
There has been discussion about holding one on 9/12 in conjunction with the 912 Project in Washington D.C. Please send a request to my e-mail address at Rod.Merrill@hughes.net and I will add you to the list of those receiving future updates. (Your e-mail address will remain private and will not be shared with others) Also pictures from yesterday's event have been posted at www.teapartyofwmi.org under Photos. If you don't see them immediately, type Ludington in the Search field. This is also the central website for this part of the state for all upcoming Tea Party events and to stay in contact with others. Just like this LDN website you do need to become a member to add content, there is no charge and you can select what notifications you receive.
In addition, I am also actively involved with a number of Tea Party organizations across the country. Please e-mail me anytime for more information as this unique historical movement grows to change the political landscape of America driven by concerned citizen volunteers at the grassroots level.
The most impressive thing about the Ludington Tea Party was all of the folks that stood up to speak their mind. We had everything from a youngster, Ben Dowdy age 12 from down state, to seinor citizens that have just about seen it all, get up and share their views. Thanks to everyone that came out for this important event.
