Scottville, Custer, Branch too. What's in a name...

Does anyone know what those lights were that were floating in the sky before the fireworks went off?You could see them when you looked west. They appeared to rise slowly then grow dim when they were high in the sky.

They were small hot air balloons. They have are about the size of a grocery bag and there is a small wick that you light. It heats up the air and it rises. After a short time it burns out and the bags will fall.

Thanks for the info. Do you know where to purchase them?

It would have been nice for them to fly over the parade and not an hour before it started. We were eating lunch in a resturant when they flew over and we missed them. Although they did rattle the dishes.

I though that the Coast Guard fly over during the parade was a great touch. Thank you to the Coasties.

Lord man you'd better put all the sharp objects in your house away you might hurt someone. I thought I was the most paranoid soul on the face of the earth .. I feel much better now. Don't drive a car!! its a dangerous machine driven by someone far less trained in the safety of even a car than most guys who fly anything like an A-10. And you fly at ground level. more things to hit.

Thanks for posting that link. We're going to give it a try unless it is illegal.

umm...where does the plastic go? Do they just fall back to earth where you let them off at? Just curious. My kids and I make it a point to pick up at least one bag of trash every time we are at the beach (3-4 times a week) and it is DISGUSTING how many balloons(among other things) there are littering our beaches :(

The ones I saw were made completely out of thin paper and balsa wood. They would decompose very quickly.
