Ludington Talks

Scottville, Custer, Branch too. What's in a name...

Hello Everyone,
I have been skimming over what seems like hundreds of ads in the papers as well as on the internet, it has gotten fairly overwhelming... so many places have what appears to be similar items at significantly different prices. What have you found to be the best deals on items and at what stores? Also, does anyone know for certain that we can do the shopping online in our pj's with coffee in hand and not travel to the stores to get the same prices with the exception of the shipping fees.
Thanks for any input!

I read somewhere to use extreme caution. Many of those specials like the plasma tv's are actually slightly inferior models of what people think they are getting. The color on the tv might not be as great, the parts in the computer might slightly inferior and so on. I wish I knew where I read it, but they said to be recognize the model number (it might be off by one letter) if you are getting large expensive items for extremely low prices.

Another thing is the bait and switch tactics so common for black friday sales. There is a reason the fine print says "only 250 per store". Often they give you rain checks, but they will never get that model in again or the delay will be well into the next year.

I believe online shopping sales have their own sales and not necessarily the items that are in the stores.

I read about the same issues with black Friday. I think I read an article through yahoo's main page. Good luck to all the shoppers.

It probably was on Yahoo tech news where I read it.

Our family rearranged our priorities last Christmas and will do the same this year. We're just buying for the children, and any money that would have been spent on an adult goes to charity. I already bought for the grandchildren at a small local toy store. I may have spent a little more, but I have supported a local business. Nothing I bought was made in China. No Black Friday for me.

I have noticed that most of the really good deals are on the 780dp TV's instead of the 1080dp TV's, a big clue to this is they don't list the dp in the ad.
Zannie - go buy yourself that flat screen you deserve it (make sure it is 1080).

That's what that article I was reading was talking about.

Love black friday, used to get up early to go deer hunting, this is way more exciting, if you don't get trampled. If you go, be sure to show up around 8 or 9 am. ( I'll be way gone by then ha ha )

Depends on what size TV your buying as far as the 720p and 1080p thing goes. In all reality, unless your extremely picky about what you see on a TV, you won't generally need to bother to get a 1080p 32" TV. A 37" will usually come in 1080p as will the larger sizes unless its a Plasma TV, most Plasma's are 720p, even in the larger sizes although there are 1080p Plasma's out there. A 32" TV though is small enough that your generally not going to notice the extra pixel's per inch that you would on a bigger TV. Think of it like this.... lets say you have a picture and you want to enlarge it, the more you enlarge it, the more the picture looses its sharpness. Same thing happens with TV's as you go up in size and that's why a larger TV will generally be 1080p compared to 32" and smaller TV's being 720p. Another thing to keep in mind is that you'll generally pay more for a 1080p 32" TV... anywhere from $50 to $100.

Anyway, that said, some people will still want to go with the 1080p 32" TV's anyway which is fine with me, means more money for the store. If your buying for a bedroom and its going to be a TV that isn't the main one that is watched, might not be worth it to get a nicer TV anyway.
